(Memphis) The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign has reached the half-way mark on their goal of raising $520,000 this holiday season.
But only eight days of collections remain.
“It’s been a huge help to have some corporate partners of the Salvation Army jump in and issue challenge grants especially First Tennessee foundation, Tuesday will match every dollar that people put in the kettles up to $25,000,” said Salvation Army Area Commander Captain Jonathan Rich.
“It’s amazing to see lives transformed. From walking in here the first time scared, without any resources without any hope. And then to leave with a job to be much more healthy, to be raising their children,” added Captain Rich.
This fundraising season has been slow, with a shorter holiday season and with Americans spending less.
But this is the largest fundraiser for the Salvation Army which helps house homeless women and children and those women who are fighting addiction.
“Over 100 women and children are in this building every single night throughout the whole year,” said Rich.
WREG will be out ringing the bell at the Kroger on Mendenhall in East Memphis.
