BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Confederate monument in Birmingham was boxed up in plywood as city officials look at legal options to remove it.

WBRC reports the Confederate soldiers and sailors monument was covered up Tuesday night.

Birmingham city leaders have called for removing Confederate monuments from public spaces and the city’s mayor ordered the monument covered up.
