(Memphis) New Year’s Day got off to a scary start for a woman who opened the front door of her Orange Blossom apartment on Hubert Avenue.
It left her so frightened that she asked us not to identify her when we tell her story, “I’m still shaking now, like I can’t go to sleep, I don’t know what to think I opened the door up and a guy said can I come in and hide the gun and I was like no I don’t know you.”
Not only did she not know the man, she became even more afraid when she saw the stranger had a gun, “He put his feet up to the door and when I saw the gun I ran.”
But that didn’t stop the man, who apparently had been drinking, from coming inside.
“Drunk, he couldn’t even stand up, he sat on my couch and he was going on about problems with his wife and that was the only thing that could keep him safe was his gun.”
What had been just talk about the gunman’s wife took another bizarre turn, “We heard some people in the backyard yelling, so he put the clip in the gun and he stood at the back door with the gun to the door.”
The woman was able to call police when the man left her house 10 minutes later.
While police were investigating that crime, they saw two men taking rims off an SUV that was reported carjacked Monday night.
Police say they arrested a 15 year-old.
This was one new year’s morning one woman will never forget, “Something I hope don’t stick with me, but its stuck with me right now.”
