ELKMONT, Ala. — Race officials in Alabama got a very big surprise when a dog crossed the finish line, earning her first medal.

According to the event’s Facebook page, Ludivine, a 2-and-a-half-year-old bloodhound, accidentally ran the entire 13.1 miles of the Elkmont Half Marathon.

Even more impressive was the fact she finished in seventh place with a time of 1:32:56.

According to THV11, Ludivine wandered out of her backyard the morning of the race.

When the starting gun went off, so did she.

Runner Tim Horvath told reporters he noticed the dog in the parking lot before the start of the race but didn’t think anything of it.

“She came bouncing up, and I petted her on the head. I saw her collar, so I just figured she was somebody’s dog,” he said.

Even with a couple of pit stops, Ludivine kept up with her new running mate until the very end.

After it was all said and done, her owner admitted she was surprised by the results, saying Ludivine is “actually really lazy.”

We’d like to think she was just saving up her energy to kick some tail in her first half marathon.
