Blytheville police shoot 2 people after vehicle chase

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — Authorities in northeast Arkansas say Blytheville police officers shot two people after a vehicle chase.

Police Chief Ross Thompson says officers were trying to stop a vehicle when the shooting happened at about 4 a.m. Thursday. Thompson says the vehicle’s driver led officers on a chase, which ended in a rural area east of Blytheville.

Thompson says Blytheville officers shot two of the three people in the vehicle. One person is in critical condition, and the person who wasn’t harmed was taken into police custody. The condition of the second person wasn’t immediately known.

Thompson says no officers were hurt. The Blytheville Courier News reports that Arkansas State Police agents are investigating the shooting, and that the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.
