(Guntown, MS) The bodies found in a shallow grave in Union County are identified as the missing Mississippi woman and her oldest daughter, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The remains of Jo Ann Bain and 14-year-old Adrienne Bain were found over the weekend behind Adam Mayes home.
The FBI believes the other two children Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8, are with Mayes.
Mayes, who police call a ‘family friend’ of the Bain family, is accused of abducting Jo Ann Bain and her children more than a week ago. He has been on the run ever since.
“We are getting tips from all over the country,” Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said.
Investigators searched the backyard of Mayes home again Monday after the bodies of Bain and her daughter were found over the weekend.Law enforcement spent Monday searching the woods for Mayes and the girls.
“We could not count the multiple sheriffs cars and canine units and state troopers. There are hundreds of them going in all directions,” Guntown resident, Lisa Hendrix said.
Roadblocks were set up around the county. Hendrix’s son-in-law was pulled over twice.
“They even made him get out and they checked his trunk,” she said. “Pretty scary.”
While law enforcement paint Mayes as an armed and dangerous person, people know him call him a social guy.
“He is a real friendly dude. Liked music. He would sit around and play guitar and work on cars,” Kurt Browne said. “I didn’t think he was capable of doing anything like that.”
Meanwhile, those who live near Mayes are on high alert.
“It’s hard to wrap your head around it’s really scary,” Mayes neighbor, Barbara Wilson, said. “I wish they would hurry up and catch him so things could get back to normal.”
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Mayes. Agents say he may be using the alias of Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass.
