MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have released more information after a body was found in a bag behind a Cordova shopping center Tuesday morning.

Police say the victim is 22-year-old Amanda Smith, and the cause of death is still under investigation.

Police said they responded to a suspicious call around 10 a.m. August 6 behind the shopping center at 2393 N. Germantown Pkwy, which houses a Dick’s Sporting Goods and an Ashley Furniture. IKEA and Costco are nearby.

A body was found in a black bag in the Fletcher Creek behind the buildings when police arrived.

Police said the case is being investigated as a homicide. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

The news of the discovery makes customers feel uneasy.

“I hope they find out whatever happened to that person. It’s really sad,” a customer said.
