JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi State Department of Health has issued a Boil-Water Alert for those who get their water from Como in Panola County.
According to the release, a test showed coliform bacteria in the water.
In all, this affects more than 1245 customers in the area.
To use the water officials said you have to boil the water vigorously for one minute for at least the next two days.
Other tips to consider while under a Boil-Water Alert:
- Do not drink tap water
- Do not drink from water fountains in parks, or fountains located in public or private buildings.
- Do not use ice unless it is made from the same boiled water. Freezing straight tap water will not necessarily kill the bacteria.
- Don’t wash dishes in tap water
- Wash all of your fruits and vegetables with bottled or boiled water.
- Bathing will be okay as long as you take care not to drink it.
- Brush your teeth with bottled water.
Once the water boil is lifted:
- Flush the faucets for 10 minutes to get the untreated water out of your house plumbing.
- Check water filters and replace if needed.
- Run your dishwasher once or twice before washing dishes.
- Rewash food and utensils.
