(Munford, TN) – Time is ticking for the Munford High School Band to get the uniforms they need or they won’t be able to take part in any state or national competitions next year.
The band says it needs the new outfits to be competitive. They only have a few more days to raise the money they need.
For the last twenty years the Munford High School Band has worn the same uniforms.
Senior Nick Garrett wore one when the band took the national title in 2011, “It’s pretty awesome. I get to uphold that honor that previous people put their blood sweat and tears into.”
However, those uniforms are worn and tattered and no longer a fit for the group.
“The band has outgrown them just by sheer numbers,” said Larry Wildes, the band booster president.
If the $50,000 needed for a down payment can be raised in time, the group will get 250 new uniforms.
“We have contacted banks, we have contacted organizations looking for loans, grant funding anything we could possibly come up with,” Wildes said.
The booster club is working hard to get the money. In five days, they raised $35,000 thanks to help from the community, but the boosters still have come up short.
“We’ve got to make up $14,000 over the weekend,” added Wildes.
Students say the uniforms are the final piece in a band committed to excellence.
“It’s awesome to start at a new point and just more stories and memories to make,” said Garrett.
Add on that, a few more trophies to win.
The boosters have until Monday to raise the rest of the money and make the deposit.
