MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The sports world is keeping a close eye on the Mid-South, not just because of the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Olympic Boxing Trials are also being held downtown.
This week, two dozen women are lacing up their gloves inside the Memphis Cook Convention Center for a chance to fulfill their dreams.
They are here for the first U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials on the road to Rio for the 2016 Olympic games.
Two of the headliners are 2012 middleweight gold medalist Claressa Shields and Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza.
By the end of the week, three boxers will be nominated to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, one per weight class.
The Boxing Trials in Memphis will continue through Saturday.
