The Boy Scouts of America is expected to end officially its ban on gay scout leaders Monday.
The national executive board is expected to pass formally a resolution, adopted earlier this month; that would change the long-standing policy.
In May, the national president of the Boy Scouts, Robert Gates, said, “The status quo in our movement’s membership standards cannot be sustained.”
It would still allow churches, mosques, and synagogues who sponsor Scout units to select leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their organizations’ religious beliefs.
The group voted in 2013 to lift the ban and allow gay youths into the organization.
The Scouts will also bar discrimination based on sexual orientation in all official facilities and paying jobs across the country.
