MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Friday, the Memphis Police Department made another arrest in the BP attack.
Investigators told WREG another man was behind bars charged with aggravated riot for attacking a man trying to get in his car.
Christopher Davis’s bond was set at $30,000.
He and five others charged in the mob attack were scheduled to be back in court next week.
Three of the suspects sit in jail tonight; the other nine have bailed out.
WREG talked to one of the young men out on bond who said they were under a strict 7a.m.-7p.m. curfew.
But for many of these suspects this was not their first brush with the law.
Davis reported to court Friday morning via television screen where a judge asked him to report back in a week.
Wednesday police arrested Cordero Ragland in connection with the attack.
A WREG investigation revealed he had quite the rap sheet as well including aggravated robbery and assault.
The assault charge stemmed from a fight at Elizabeth Malone Park just off Jefferson Avenue one year ago.
Miss Jones lived across the street from the park and said she used to see a lot of it.
“Fights and shootings. Stuff like that,” she explained.
We couldn’t track down the victim, but police documents showed he identified Ragland as the person who attacked him, broke his arm and chipped his teeth.
Miss Jones said this is a known meeting place for gang members.
She didn’t like seeing them here so she has her own way of dealing with it.
By straight up asking them what they were doing.
“‘We are just sitting over here,’ they would say. So I would say, ‘okay, I’m going to sit with you.’ Then they would gather up their group and walk away,” she told us.
Jones hoped these kids involved in the mob attack didn’t walk away from these charges without making a change.
She said this community was in desperate need of role models not more trouble.
Six of the men charged are due back in court in a week.
One of their mothers told WREG she was upset with her son but said she’s glad he was able to graduate during the fall out from this horrific attack.
