MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  A barge hit the Harahan Bridge on the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis Friday night.

That bridge runs next to the I-55 bridge going from Memphis into Arkansas.

The Big River Crossing was temporarily closed while the bridge was inspected for possible damage, but it’s now open again. Access is still limited to the Memphis side, though, due to the rising water levels.

It’s not clear what caused the barge to hit the bridge.
