Brownie awarded Girl Scout Medal of Honor

SOMERVILLE, Tenn. — The Girl Scouts of Fayette County celebrated one special little Brownie this week.

Thirty-four girls were recognized during the Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony for their involvement, but special attention was given to Maeson Morris of Brownie Troop 10384.

That’s because she was awarded the most prestigious award in scouting: the Girl Scout Medal of Honor.

According to the release, the 8-year-old leaped into action when she noticed a woman had fallen due to a medical issue in 2014.

She was recognized for “her quick thinking and compassion”.

The Medal of Honor is a lifesaving award given to those who “have saved or attempted to save a human life under circumstances that indicate heroism. This award is reserved for those Girl Scouts who have performed heroic acts beyond the degree of maturity and training to be expected at their age.”

In 2014, 29 girls received this recognition.
