Business needs public’s help tracking down laptop thief

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A business owner is asking for your help to track down a woman who robbed his shop.

No soliciting signs outside Wiggins Car Care make it clear owner Michael Wiggins is not buying anything you are selling. However, that did not stop a woman from trying to scam one of their employees while Michael Wiggins was out of town last Friday. “A lady came and asked for a donation for her daughter’s… whatever it was,” he said.

The employee told the woman she would have to come back when Wiggins returned. So instead, the woman asked to use the bathroom. “About 15 minutes later, Doris went to check on her. She was still in the bathroom. She said she’ll be right out,” Wiggins told WREG.

The employee went into an office, and that is when the woman came out of the bathroom, grabbed his laptop and walked out.

Thankfully, a neighboring business’s cameras caught images of the woman leaving. They said the woman tried getting money from them as well.

“She even waved bye as she had my laptop and just carried it right out the door,” Wiggins said.

Since the theft, Wiggins Car Care has made several changes for security reasons, including keeping their front door locked.

The surveillance video has been turned over to police, but so far no arrests have been made.

Wiggins hopes someone will recognize the woman, do the right thing and call. “On my laptop is all my personal stuff,” he said. “Pictures of my grand babies, everything that’s important. It’s just such a violation,” he said.

Wiggins is also offering a reward of $500 to anyone who can give police information that leads to an arrest.
