(Memphis) A Memphis business owner is defending his name after the Better Business Bureau said it received several complaints about his services.
1st Call Home Services owner James Jones said Groupon deals bring in hundreds of customers and have only left a few unhappy in Memphis.
Erika Sugarmon is one of them.
She complained to the Better Business Bureau after she bought a Groupon for carpet cleaning for $59 and paid $700 on top of that for hidden fees.
Jones said Sugarmon knew what she was paying for before the worked started, because she asked for extra services and a $200 warranty.
Jones agreed to speak with Sugarmon.
Today, he went to her home.
“All I wanted was the basic cleaning, and I couldn’t get that,” said Sugarmon.
Jones said he understood Sugarmon’s feelings, but asked her why she agreed to the $700.
Jones offered a refund, and said, “I really hate that she is upset and frustrated. As she said, she knew about the warranty.”
Sugarmon said she felt Jones was “argumentative” and “sarcastic” at times.
She said she will wait for the refund, but “would not recommend this company to anybody at all.”
Jones said he feels that the Better Business Bureau is targeting him, because he refused to pay a membership fee.
