HATTIESBURG, Miss. —The truck police found in the search for the men who fired shots at Camp Shelby soldiers was the wrong vehicle, and the suspects are still at large.
WJTV reported the Perry County Sheriff’s Office had said two people have been taken into custody for the incident, which happened just before noon Tuesday.
That news came just hours after deputies located a vehicle matching the description of a truck driven by the two suspects. The vehicle was described as a red Ford Ranger with “broken arrow” written on the front.
Deputies were immediately sent to the residence where the vehicle was found, but it turned out to be the wrong vehicle.
Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said two men fired shots at the military post and then fled in the truck. No injuries were reported in the shooting.
The soldiers were training at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Hattiesburg. About 4,600 soldiers are participating in the training exercise, which is scheduled to continue through mid-August.
