MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are searching for a white car that was stolen from a Hickory Hill parking lot with a child still inside the car.
Around 6 p.m., Memphis Police said a white Chevrolet Camaro was stolen from the parking lot of a Family Dollar store on Hickory Hill Road.
Witnesses at the scene said a woman left the car to go inside the Family Dollar store. She left her child and adult brother, who has down syndrome, in the car.
After the woman walked into the store, witnesses said they saw two men get into the car and drive off.
“They just jumped in the car and pulled off real fast,” one witness said.
When the car was stolen, the child and adult were still inside the car. Both of them have since been found safe by police, but the suspects and the car are still on the loose.
Witnesses quickly found the mother inside the store and told her what they saw happen.
“She broke down and just kept saying, ‘My baby, my baby, my brother,'” a witness said.
Police said there could be multiple suspects involved with stealing the car, and one of them may be known to the victim.
Police are still looking for the white Camaro with a possible tag number of P0071J.
The adult and child left in the car were reunited with the woman at the Family Dollar store after they were found by police on Pheasant Ridge Cove.
“Get a job,” a witness on the scene said. “Work hard for your own stuff. Don’t go round taking peoples’ things, y’all. It’s not cool.”
