WASHINGTON — A former lieutenant with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office appeared before a judge on Wednesday, pleading guilty to using her taser on a detainee.
In March 2015, 48-year-old Jeanette Barnes used her taser on a pre-trial detainee for 12 seconds resulting in burns to his skin and pain.
At the time, the man was restrained in a chair and did not pose a threat to anyone.
On Wednesday, she confessed to the crime and one count of deprivation of rights under color of law, the Department of Justice said.
When she is sentenced in February, Barnes could face up to 10 years in prison.
