MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said a pair of bold bandits swiped hundreds of dollars worth of name-brand purses from a Hickory Hill store.
Police said the guys were wearing ski masks and hoodies and used a set of bolt cutters to bash in the window after Burlington Coat Factory on Winchester closed Friday night.
The bandits reportedly made off with $900 worth of Guess, Nine West and Betsey Johnson purses.
Police said the window-smashing didn’t trigger the alarm, and the thieves didn’t leave any fingerprints.
“It’s scary. It’s scary to be out here shopping,” said customer Andrea Nelson.
The crime happened while security cameras were rolling. They captured the getaway car too, which is a 2000, gold or silver Nissan Maxima.
“You got to be awfully bold to do something in front like that. Awfully bold right there,” said customer Morris Stewart.
In the last six months in the Mid-South, smash and grabs were reported at jewelry and retail stores and even homes at all hours of the day.
Law enforcement said smash and grabs are becoming common nationwide, and many times they’re carried out by traveling gangs targeting high-end goods.
Burlington Coat Factory’s corporate office never got back to WREG, and no one at the store would talk about what happened.
