MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The cause of death of a firefighter who collapsed while responding to a call has been released by the Medical Examiner.
On April 17, fire crews responded to a house fire in the 4500 block of Marigold Lane.
They were quickly able to get the fire under control, but tragically Lt. Rodney Eddins, 57, collapsed inside the Memphis home.
He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and died soon after.
According to the Shelby County Medical Examiner, Eddins died of natural causes.
The exact cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
Eddins was married with one daughter.
He had been with the Fire Department for 30 years.
