(Memphis) Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have now classified the investigation into suspect meds shipped from a MidSouth Pharmacy as an outbreak.
Main Street Family Pharmacy in Newbern voluntarily recalled all products labeled as sterile after at least seven people reported having bad reactions from a steroid shot.
Late Thursday, the CDC launched a page on its website connected to the case. It currently shows 20 reported cases.
The steroid shots in question were shipped to 17 states including Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Several MidSouth clinics got the drugs as well. WREG also discovered the pharmacy had recently been placed on probation for having outdated medication.
History of Problems for Main Street Family Pharmacy
The owners of the pharmacy have declined to speak on camera.
A spokesperson released the following updated statement Friday.
“Since this matter surfaced, Main Street Family Pharmacy has done everything in its power to ensure that all potentially affected compounded medicines are recalled and no longer used by consumers or healthcare providers.
In addition to the recall, our efforts have also included comprehensive, aggressive outreach to everyone who could be affected. We continue to fully cooperate with state boards of health, the FDA and CDC to protect patients and resolve any lingering concerns.”
The spokesperson tells WREG the pharmacy became aware of possible problems with medication it shipped last Friday. They were notified by the FDA.
