MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Cell phone selfies helped police catch a woman accused of a robbery.

Police said Kya Dowdy stole a cell phone, then kicked the victim out of a car at the Greyhound Bus Station on Airways Boulevard.

The victim told WREG over the phone she’s relieved the woman accused of stealing her cell phone was caught.

She said she got tired of the woman taking several pictures of herself on the phone.

“She was dumb if she didn’t want to get caught wasn’t she,” said Andrew Gibbs, who was dropping a friend off at the bus station.

The victim told police Dowdy needed to use the phone to call for a ride.

Instead of returning it, police said Dowdy walked off with the phone and got in a car.

“I think it`s sad that she stole the lady’s phone after she was nice enough to let her use the phone. People does crazy things nowadays,” said Tennille Martin, who was dropping her son off at the bus station.

The victim told police she got into the backseat of the car and demanded Dowdy return the phone.

When she grabbed for the phone, Dowdy kicked the woman out of the car last Wednesday.

Dowdy created clues that led police to her yesterday.

The victim told WREG Dowdy took several pictures of herself; even nude photos.

Those pictures were automatically sent to the victim’s Gmail account.

People at the bus station said Dowdy got what she deserved.

“She couldn’t have been really serious about stealing the phone if she’s taking selfies. I’ve known people, you can track the phones, you can ping them, you can find out where they are,” Gibbs added.

People at the bus station said this is a lesson learned, and they won’t let anyone borrow their cell phones form now on.

Dowdy is due in court Wednesday.

Her bond was set at $25,000.00.
