MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a child who was abducted when someone tried to steal the vehicle he was in was found unharmed Monday morning.

A woman left the child unattended in her 2004 Chevy Silverado when she went to pay at a gas station in the 3300 block of Thomas around 6 a.m., police said.

An unknown suspect got into the vehicle and drove off with the child.

The suspect released the child nearby. A passerby took the child to a fire station at 345 Millington, police said.

The vehicle and suspect have not been found.

The woman was issued a citation for leaving her vehicle running unattended and the Department of Children’s Services was notified, police said.
