MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a child was shot to death in Hickory Hill, and another child has been charged in his death.
The shooting happened at the Hickory Farm Apartment Homes on Hickory Farms Drive off of Ridgeway Road at around 3:40 p.m. Police say a boy was pronounced dead on the scene.
Memphis Police say a girl was arrested. She’s been charged with reckless homicide.
While the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear, neighbors say the root of issue needs to be addressed: gun violence in Memphis.
“Where are kids getting these guns from?” one neighbor said. “That is the number one thing. I know they not selling them, if they getting them from the pawn shop, somebody need to do something.”
A neighbor who did not want to be identified hopes this shooting serves as a wake up call for parents.
“Parents, please pay attention to your kids,” the neighbor said. “Talk to your kids, talk to young boys. And not only your boys and girls, and everything, tell them to do better, and put the guys down. Just put them down. pray, put them down.”
