MPD said the investigation revealed that the victim, 8-year-old Jordyn Washington, was inside an apartment when a bullet came from outside, striking the victim. No arrest has been made at this point. Anyone with information regarding this murder should call Crime Stopper, 901-528-CASH.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said officers responded to a deadly shooting in the 5200 block of Shelborne Circle, in the Raleigh, Sunday afternoon.
MPD said officers arrived right before 5 p.m. They said the girl was struck, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A family member told WREG-TV the little girl was only eight years old. Additionally, they said she loved to smile and loved to have fun. Those living nearby said at the time of this shooting, they heard several gunshots before seeing a white sedan speed away.
People living in the area said they are sick and tired of violence taking the lives of innocent children.
“Make sure your bullets go where they’re supposed to,” Louis Noah, who lives nearby, said. “Now a little eight-year-old girl has lost her life. It’s terrible.”
People living at the Highland Chateau Apartments waited patiently outside their complex as Memphis Police carried out their massive investigation into the shooting death of a little girl.
“It’s just heartbreaking. And you stand here and you see the loved ones just breaking down crying so hard. It brings tears to your eyes,” Noah said.
Noah said he heard about 20 shots coming from the entrance around 4 p.m. He said he saw a car speeding away from the area right after the shooting ended.
Noah said he immediately called 9-1-1, but it was too late. Mpd said the young girl was dead at the scene, adding to the growing list of children who have been violently killed in the city of Memphis this year.
Memphis Police have not released a motive for the shooting, but people told WREG-TV it may have been an argument over a car. As for the suspect, Police said they know who the shooter is, but they have not made any arrests.
This is an ongoing homicide investigation.
