MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Child Advocacy Center announced Monday it will raise the Children’s Memorial Flag in memory of Destine King, a 6-year-old who was abused and died in foster care.

The flag will go up Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and fly for one week.

Antonio Evans, 14, was charged with murder for her death. Police said he was watching Destine while the mother was at work; he also allegedly abused two other foster children.

A ceremony will accompany the flag raising at 1085 Poplar Avenue. The public is invited to attend.

The Memphis Child Advocacy Center raises the flag when a parent or caregiver has been charged in a child’s death in Shelby County. Destine will be the 65th child honored by the center since 2005.

“Our hearts go out to everyone who knew and loved Destine,” said Virginia Stallworth, the executive director of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center. “This tragic loss is a painful reminder that we must continue to work together as a community to protect each and every child from harm.”
