MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One Memphis City Council member isn’t just talking about the blight in Memphis – she’s trying to do something about it.
Friday, Janis Fullilove and representatives from the city’s public works department got a demonstration of a giant leaf vacuum on one Hickory Hill Street.
Kavion Lawn Vacuum Services brought in a loaner from Ohio to demonstrate how it could pick up leaves, debris, and other trash on city streets.
The company has ordered six of them and would like to contract with Memphis or any other municipalities that are interested.
“We are out here in Hickory Hill and people have homes that have been foreclosed on and some of the lawns aren’t being taken care of and the leaves pile up and pile up and it’s very frustrating for people who want to keep their areas looking good. So, anything can help us I’m willing to listen to,” Fullilove said.
Kavion said the leaf vacuums are being used in other city’s to clean up from festivals and parties.
They said the machines are about $30,000 piece.
