SAVANNAH, Tenn. — On Thursday, attorneys from both sides made their closing arguments in the trial of a man charged with killing a Tennessee nursing student who disappeared into the woods behind her rural home more than six years ago.
Thursday marks the ninth day of trial for Zachary Adams, who has pleaded not guilty of first-degree felony murder, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape and premeditated murder in the death of Holly Bobo.
Despite his claims of innocence, the prosecution painted him as anything but. In its closing arguments, the state reiterated the testimony of 10 different people who said Adams talked about committing the crime including Jason Autry. Autry’s testimony, the most damning evidence as to the defendant’s guilt, was corroborated by many different witnesses, they said.
But that wasn’t all. They pointed out how after he was jailed, Adams continued to talk, reportedly telling one inmate in March 2014 there was no case because there was “no body and no gun.”
Bobo’s body was not discovered until September 2014 leaving one to wonder how he knew Bobo had been shot if he were not involved, the prosecution said.
The defense went over how there’s no evidence in this case, how co-defendant Jason Autry’s testimony can’t be trusted and that convicted rapist Terry Britt is a more fitting suspect for this crime.
