Memphis, Tenn- Childhood obesity is a big problem in this country and particularly in Tennessee.
One program being offered this summer for free could help your kids pick up some healthy habits for life.
Baptist Memorial Health Care’s ‘Club Get Fit’ kicks off next week.
‘Club Get Fit’ is a ten week program aimed at getting children and their parents to work together to get healthier.
It starts with changing the way they look at food.
The program is for kids in grades one through five and teaches them and their parents how to choose the right foods in the right proportions.
It also teaches them about the importance of physical activity.
Families that took part in the most recent class say they are living differently.
“I have lost a couple of pounds and eat a lot less french fries food, for example, and a lot less fast food and that kind of stuff, ” said Lexie Pitzer.
Club fit starts May 27 and runs through July 29.
