(Memphis) A “Code Orange” Air Quality Advisory has been issued for the Memphis Metropolitan Area.
In cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, the Arkansas Department of Health and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, the Shelby County Health Department issued the advisory due to a monitored exceedance of the eight-hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard for Ozone.
Under these guidelines, current air quality throughout the Memphis Metro Area has become “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” and is expected to remain that way until after sunset this evening.
The Memphis Metropolitan area includes Shelby County, TN, Crittenden County, AR, and DeSoto County, MS.
There will be no discount on MATA buses and trolleys as there was no forecasted Code Orange for today.
The forecast exceedance for Sunday is expected as a result of stagnant conditions, increased temperatures, and decreased winds.
