MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  It was a good Friday in North Memphis as gifts were presented as part of a community giveaway ahead of Easter, hosted by Greater Community Temple Church of God in Christ.

There is purpose behind what looks like a party, Bishop Brandon Porter told us.

Thousands of gifts went to people the community — food, toys, household goods and much more. But there was also a surprise that could change lives.

“FedEx is here and they are going to give out some 500 jobs. They promised to give out 500 jobs today,” Porter said.

It was certainly encouraging for the hundreds in attendance as they received words of encouragement.

The church also offered devotion as they prayed for the city and for better days ahead.

If you missed out on Friday’s event, not to worry. Bishop Porter says the church has giveaways on some level almost monthly, so there is more to come.
