(Memphis) Long lines looped around the walls at Annointed Temple of Praise Thursday.
On the last day of early voting, candidates in the District 9 race for the house of representatives made their final push.
They shook hands, held signs, and Dr. George Flinn even had a car with a megaphone urging people to support him.
But as Rep. Steve Cohen and Dr. Flinn battled for votes, another battle brewed.
“We heard that my republican opponent had been within the 100 foot border,” Cohen said.
We captured Dr. Flinn coming out of the East Memphis polling location. Cohen says Flinn ignored an election law stopping anyone from campaigning within 100 feet of a polling station.
Dr. Flinn ‘s claims he’s not violating any rules.
“I was going to the bathroom,” Flinn explained. “You can go to the bathroom. You take off your sticker.”
Cohen calls that one of the oldest excuses in the book.
“So we thought we would come out here, greet some voters, and also watch,” he said.
We asked the election workers to sort this out. She says that she had to ask Flinn to move back to the 100 foot marker several times in the last four days. But Flinn says that can’t be true because hes only been out here the last two days.
So that debate continues, even though the candidates won’t debate each other.
