MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s one of the deadliest fires in Memphis history and Monday night family and friends gathered outside a home on Severson to remember the nine lives lost.
Six of them were children.
“Don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to feel.”
A father mourning and praying.
He’s lost his family.
The only survivor of the deadly blaze was his 9-year-old son Cameron who is fighting for his life at the hospital.
“Cameron is a fighter whatever he does he always finishes. He has that will,” said his grandmother, Veronica Fayer.
A community left grieving, but joining together for strength.
“This whole neighborhood, everybody we are just like a whole big family.”
The tragedy also took a toll on firefighters who carried the bodies of the young children from the smoldering home.
“This is devastating to our fire crews. We never want to arrive on a scene of this magnitude.”
