MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Community leaders said there’s a lot of potential for Mud Island River Park to grow, but they need your help.
The President of the Riverfront Development Corporation Benny Lendermon said the opening of Bass Pro was going to have a huge impact on Mud Island’s growth.
From Bass Pro to the Riverboats, it was enough to attract Cordova resident, Jennifer Phoenix.
She even brought her mom who was in town visiting.
“We went on a boat ride last year. We just came from the Bass Pro Shop area so it’s great to bring people down here and keep people down for the day,” she said.
Lendermon said he was looking for ways to attract more people to Mud Island Riverpark, and he wants your ideas.
“What things are acceptable to do over there? What parts of Mud Island does everyone want or hope to stay? What do we want to change; what the relationship looks like on an economic incentive basis,” he said.
Phoenix said there’s a number of things she would like to see.
“I think more family friendly events would be great. We brought our kids to Mud Island for Rock N Romp and they had a ball hanging out in the river area. Maybe doing something about more parking or easier to park,” she said.
“There’s a reason we waited till Bass Pro opened before we started looking at what to do with Mud Island,” said Lendermon. “It’s really changed that part of town. It’s really shown people what can happen and how many people you can attract to this site.”
Sandy Vieczorek and her husband who were visiting from Pennsylvania liked the tourist attraction.
“We are tourist and we are attracted to this place. We read a lot about it and one of the reasons we came to Memphis is because my husband wanted to walk along the Mississippi River. River Walk just appealed to him and that’s what we’re doing here and it doesn’t disappoint, it’s really lovely,” Vieczorek said.
