(Toone, TN) Kathy Chism sat four feet away from a poster-size picture of her husband, Michael, who was killed in an explosion at the Kilgore Flares plant Saturday.
His death wasn’t the first for this community…it’s a pain they know.
In 2010, Kilgore was fined after three women were burned in an explosion.
Erika Jarrett was burned in that explosion. Her mother-in-law said Thursday night it should never have happened again.
“It brings the pain back, memories back from what we went through.”
ATF agents had to get a search warrant before they could get inside Kilgore.
Hours before this community remembered Michael Thursday, the ATF released a report saying the explosion was an accident.
Other agencies are also looking into safety at the plant.Kathy Chism also worked at Kilgore, and knows it needs to change.”They need to really up it and do safety procedures,” she said. “They did all these million dollars to make it better.”
