CLARKSDALE, Miss. — People living in this community say it’s now time, more than ever to support their police officers.
New Channel 3 was there when Clarksdale Officers and family members swarmed the Regional Medical Center in Memphis just moments after police say a robbery suspect shot Corporal Derrick Couch in the eye.
“It hits home. It hits close. It is like a blood member of your family being affected. Someone putting their life on the line everyday for you and something like this happens. It makes the community pull together,” Deputy Court Clerk Lynn Logan said.
Logan said she’s donating her bar tips at the Clarksdale Elks Lodge on Monday and Tuesday to help the officer’s family.
Others decided to wear blue to show their support.
“I hope it brings out law enforcement closer together, our sheriff and police departments closer together. I hope it brings our community closer together to show that we have to have law enforcement. We have to have it,” said Scotty Meredith.
Ribbons are being handed out for free as another way to show support.
They can be picked up at the Meredith Nowell Funeral Home on East Second Street.
