BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — A condominium association in Michigan is suing Aretha Franklin over unpaid fees and maintenance assessments, reports The Detroit News.
The legendary soul singer’s 4,148-square-foot condo, located in an exclusive gated community in Bloomfield Hills, could be foreclosed on if the association gets its way.
The Hills of Lone Pine Association said it’s owed more than $11,500.
The lawsuit names Franklin and two companies that hold mortgages on the $700,000 condo.
Franklin told the newspaper that she owns the condo but doesn’t live there.
“It is my property. I don’t live there and feel I have (been) overcharged for years,” Franklin said. “My attorney has been discussing this with them. And I have paid what I felt was credible and legitimate.”
