(Guntown, MS) Kidnapping suspect Adam Mayes was captured on surveillance video at the County Line Convenience Store in Guntown, MS. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations released the video Tuesday.
“It was last Monday around 5 p.m. he (Adam Mayes) came in and bought a coke and walked out,” store clerk Nick Barghouthi told WREG.
On the video Mayes is wearing a white shirt and has a new look. He even jokes about it with the clerk.
Clerk: “Hot enough for you?”
Mayes: “Yeah, but a little cooler since I got my hair cut.”
The video was taken just three days after the Bain family disappeared from Hardeman County, TN.
Barghouthi says Mayes appeared “normal” when he walked in the store.
“(Mayes was ) super calm like nothing happened,” he said.
Barghouthi said he learned the news Mayes was a wanted man last week from Mayes’ wife Teresa.
“His wife came in and told me they were looking for him,” he said. “So when I asked her what he did she said that he did this.”
Tuesday morning Teresa Mayes and Adam’s mother Mary Mayes were arrested in connection to the kidnapping.
According to the arrest affidavits, Teresa Mayes admitted to helping drive Jo Ann Bain and her daughters to Union County. The affidavit said she also admitted she helped ‘confine’ them.
The affidavit added both women saw Mayes digging a hole behind their home on the last day the Bain family was seen.
Over the weekend Jo Ann Bain and her oldest daughter Adrienne were found in shallow graves behind Mayes’ home.
“I just hope they get him before any more lives are taken,” Guntown resident Ginger Roberts said.
The youngest two daughters, Kyliyah and Alexandria Bain are still missing and investigators believe they are with Mayes.
There has been an outpouring of support on Facebook from all over the country. The Facebook page called “Help Find Jo Ann Thompson Bain and the Girls” already has more than 2,500 people on it.
