CORINTH, Miss. — The Corinth School District says a student has tested positive for COVID-19 at Corinth High School.
The Corinth School District sent a letter notifying parents of the positive test. The superintendent later confirmed it was a student who tested positive.
“I’m not surprised, because I know there are several other schools and school districts that have opened across the country, and they experienced the same thing and maybe even a little earlier than we did,” said Superintendent Lee Childress.
The Corinth School District says contact tracing has been completed, and anyone who was in close contact with that person has been notified.
The school district is requiring students who were contact with the infected person to be quarantined for 14 days. The superintendent says 12-14 students will be quarantined.
Anyone who is in quarantined will not be allowed to attend school or any school activities.
The school district is asking any student in quarantine to complete their work digitally to be counted as present.
The superintendent says because they have a hybrid option this year, it makes it a little bit easier to handle those 12-14 students that will now need to quarantine.
“That is the beauty of having both models in place,” Childress said. “Learning can continue whether you’re out of school for COVID-19 or any other type of extended illness.”
This week was the first week with students back in Corinth schools.
