MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Health Department announced they are now vaccinating those over the age of 70.

Several other entities are also providing vaccinations to those in the priority groups, including:
· Cherokee Health Systems – Limited first dose appointments today and tomorrow, February 4 and 5, 2021. To schedule an appointment, call 901-302-4361.
· Veteran’s Administration – Now vaccinating all veterans age 65 and older at the VA Medical Center at 1030 Jefferson Avenue. Veterans must be enrolled with the VA at www.va.gov to receive vaccination.
· Walmart – To schedule an appointment, go to https://www.walmart.com/cp/1228302.
Previously, only those over the age of 75 were allowed to get a vaccine along with health care workers and funeral home staff.
Health officials also acknowledged there is disparity when it comes to who is getting vaccinated. To date, 60 percent of those vaccinated are female, 50% are Whites and 11.9% are Black. Any even smaller percent are Hispanic and Latino.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 83,709 total cases and 220 new cases Thursday morning.
There have been 1,296 deaths. The health department says 22 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The number of cases considered recovered is 78,964 and there are 3,427 known active cases.
