MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Shelby County Health Department says there may be a coronavirus outbreak at another assisted living facility in Memphis.

Shelby County Health Director Alisa Haushalter says her team is investigating a possible COVID-19 outbreak at Parkway Health and Rehab in South Memphis.

“We received notice of two positive cases within that facility,” Haushalter said.

Haushalter didn’t say who tested positive, and no one at the facility has responded to WREG at this time.

There’s no information on how many people have been exposed and what’s being done to keep everyone safe.

“I will give more information once that investigation is complete,” Haushalter said.

In the meantime, Haushalter says her team is hopeful another coronavirus outbreak at an assisted living facility in East Memphis has been contained.

WREG first learned about the outbreak at Carriage Court on West Massey Road about a week ago. Since then, two employees and seven residents have tested positive.

WREG has also learned two people have died.

“At the current time, we haven’t had any new cases, and if we continue to move forward without new case, that particular facility will be viewed as going through the outbreak,” Haushalter said.

Haushalter says if there are no new cases by April 24, Carriage Court will be in the clear. But until then, people there will remained quarantined or isolated.

Haushalter says it’s important assisted living facilities and nursing homes pay close attention to the signs and symptoms among seniors, follow CDC guidelines and make sure everyone is wearing protective gear.
