Two 22-year-old correctional officers were arrested Tuesday night for felony possession charges at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.

A random search of vehicles on the property turned up marijuana, tobacco and alcohol.

Officer trainee Amaris Sherman, a probationary employee, was charged with felony possession of marijuana. Sherman’s employment will be terminated.

Officer Jelisa Tolible was charged with felony possession of alcohol on state property and misdemeanor possession of tobacco. Tolible faces disciplinary action.

“Regardless if you are staff or civilians, we will not tolerate drugs or alcohol on the grounds of any Mississippi Department of Corrections’ facility,” Commissioner Christopher B. Epps said. “Unfortunately, some employees are not abiding by this zero tolerance, and those employees should not reflect on the MDOC staff as a whole.”

The contraband items were found before their shifts began, and they were taken to the Rankin County Detention Center.

The two are now awaiting their first court appearance.
