NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The next time you pick up a coke you might find the lyrics to one of your favorite songs on the label.
Country singer Jimmy Wayne is hoping it will be his.
Wayne’s 2003 hit “I love You This Much” is among 70 song titles that will begin appearing on Coca-Cola bottles and cans this month.
“I’m very excited. I immediately thought back on the day I co-wrote the song. It was my idea and I wanted to write something about my relationship with my biological dad or lack of,” said Wayne.
The “Share a Coke and a Song” promotion follows one of the soft drink giant’s most successful U.S. campaigns of all time, which featured names.
Coke is again tapping into social media.
Consumers will be encouraged to use the Shazam mobile app to scan the lyrics and record a digital lip-sync video to share online with the hashtag #ShareaCoke.
“Hopefully, millions will be inspired to buy the song,” said Wayne.
Back in November, Coca-Cola partnered with Wayne to promote his autobiography “Walk to Beautiful: The Power of Love and a Homeless Kid” during Homeless Youth Awareness month.
The book chronicles Wayne’s life as a foster kid, his path to stardom, and his nearly 1,700 mile walk across the country for foster kids.
“Coca-Cola is the largest brand in the world. This brand played a major role in my entire life starting with Bea handing me a Coca-Cola in 1989 and befriending me. I was a homeless boy and she and her husband offered me a room in their home. This gave me a chance to go to school, college and ultimately pursue and catch my dream,” said Wayne.
Coke and Krystal are also sponsoring a contest to give one lucky school a free concert with Wayne.
Students just have to create the most unusual display possible with Krystal boxes.
The winning school will also receive more than $5,000 worth of school supplies.
Wayne credits his 6th grade teacher Ms. Crystal Friday for changing his life and inspiring him to follow his dreams.
“I’m extremely excited about the Krystal contest because it’s about commemorating my sixth grade teacher Ms. Friday and raising awareness for educators. I would not be where I am today had it not been for her discipline and direction,” said Wayne.
This week Wayne visited several of his former schools in Gaston County, NC. Check it out here.
