MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Coworkers of a man killed in a weekend motorcycle crash found it hard to get back to work on Monday.
The work went on.
Tthe noise went on.
Bbut the thoughts of employees at NES Rentals were somewhere else as they remembered their colleague Jimmy Mackey.
“It’s pretty bad around here today. Nobody’s — everybody is at a loss on what to do and what to say,” Greg Nutt, Manager at NES Rentals, said.
Mackey was one of the two people killed in a horrific crash on the highway over the weekend.
“It’s crazy. I mean what are the chances you hit a man on Interstate 40? It’s awful,” Nutt said.
Police said a dog house fell from the back of Sergio Gomez’s truck on I-40 near Sycamore View.
When Gomez, 21, stepped outside of his vehicle to pick up the dog house, Mackey slammed into him with his motorcycle.
Both men died in the crash, and a woman riding on the back of the bike was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“First day he hired in here he showed up on that bike,” Nutt remembered.
Mackey was remembered by all as a good person who cared about others.
“He’d always make you laugh,” Nutt said. “He always had a joke to tell. He had a comment to make. He just always kept everybody laughing, and he was a great guy to be around.”
Mackey’s family is now forced to plan a funeral.
“I’m sorry for their loss it’s horrible. He was a great guy,” Nutt said.
