JACKSON, Miss. — An 18-wheeler carrying more than 100 cows overturned in Jackson early Friday morning, CBS Affiliate WJTV reported.
Officials said about 40 cows escaped from the big rig, which also spilled diesel fuel across the highway.
The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 20 near I-55. The Hinds County Emergency Operations Center said the driver almost missed his turn and swerved, and the tractor-trailer overturned.
The injured driver was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center.
I-20 West was closed as officials work throughout the morning to round up the escaped the animals. It is now back open.
WJTV correspondent Natay Holmes said fire crews were also trying to contain cows still trapped in the overturned trailer.
