MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A high school student was killed after his younger brother stabbed him during an argument Sunday night.

“I didn’t think nothing like that would happen.”

Gloria Hampton lives across the street from the Frayser home on Brookmeade where police said th12-year-old boy stabbed his 15-year-old brother, Tony Mathena.

“I was here when everything went off over there.”

Police said the teen’s mother tried to get Mathena to the hospital, and flagged down officers about a mile and a half away on Frayser Boulevard and West Range Hills Drive.

Officers found Mathena unresponsive in the backseat of her car.

They tried to give first aid but it was too late.

The Craigmont High student died on the scene.

Hampton told WREG she often saw the two boys at their house.

“I see them playing and everything. They come play with my grandchildren,” she said.

Hampton said she can relate to the boys’ grieving mother.

“I’m gonna talk to her because I lost a son.”

Hampton said now she plans to help the boys mother during their tough time.

“I hate it happen but all we gonna do is pray for them. That’s all we gonna do.”
