MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A stolen FedEx delivery truck had police in Southeast Memphis searching for answers Thursday morning.

The driver told WREG it all happened in a matter of seconds.

He was inside a restaurant delivering a package when someone jumped in his truck and took off.

The driver said he thinks he was being tailed.

“When I got up I was like what’s going on?” Michael Riley said.

A swarm of police cars, and scent trailing dogs spent the morning on the hunt in Michael Riley’s front yard.

They got a call of a stolen FedEx truck from this Krystal parking lot on Winchester, and six minutes later they found it on Innsbrook Cove off of Riverdale.

Luckily no one was hurt.

The guy who took it didn’t even have time to get a single package from the truck before he ditched it.

“I don’t know man; Memphis is crazy,” Riley said, “But why would they drive over here and jump out?”

The driver said he started working with FedEx a few months ago and this wasn’t the first time someone followed him during his route.

He said the truck was running, which is standard since they run in-and-out of businesses all day.

He came out of the restaurant expecting to go to the dentist’s office next door.

Instead, he called the police because someone took his truck.

“Memphis is starting not to surprise me. So much stuff goes on here,” Riley added.

He said drivers should be treated with respect, not targeted by thieves.

He hoped they catch the guy before he does something worse, or even hurts someone.

FedEx released the following statement:

“We are aware of the incident in Memphis, and we are thankful no one was injured. We are grateful to local law enforcement for retrieving the vehicle and are cooperating with them while they investigate the incident.”
