Crooks smash windows of gas station and only steal lotto tickets

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — There was nothing left but a plastic brace holding up the display for scratch off tickets on the counter at the Shell station on the corner of Poplar and Collierville-Arlington Road.

There were cardboard boxes where glass window should be.

Workers had to call out repairmen after they arrived at the service station and found the shattered glass.

The only thing missing from inside the store were scratch off lottery tickers, stored in a case right on the front counter.

Patron Savannah Melton said she couldn’t believe they wouldn’t go after cash, a safe or even food from the store.

Cameras inside the store are being analyzed by police but a source close to the investigation told WREG men dressed in black from head to toe were seen smashing the glass and running out seconds later with the lotto case.

“You would assume it would have to be kids, but then I don’t know anything about lottery tickets,” said Shari Nafziger.

Apparently neither did the crooks, the scratch off tickets were apparently worthless.

They have to be scanned when you buy one, only then can you really cash them in for a winner.

“It’s good it serves them right for stealing them,” said Melton.
