MEMPHIS, Tenn.  — A few hundred lined up outside Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid early Thursday morning as it opened for its first full day of business.

J.T. Brown got to the store three hours ahead of time to be first in line.

He was hoping to get one of the 200 free gift cards, but more than that, he was just eager to get a look inside.

“I heard this one blows the other stores away,” said Brown.

Brown wasn’t disappointed.

Like many customers,  he spent his first few minutes taking pictures of the store and looking it over from top to bottom.

“This is mind-blowing.  I don’t know where to start.  I’m just wandering around,  said Brown.

While customers were excited by what was inside the Pyramid, they’re just as excited by what it all means for the city.

Many told us they believed the mega fishing and hunting store would attract tourists from all over the country and said it would benefit other attractions in town.

“Why would you come to see this awesome place and not see Graceland or Beale Street or Overton Square?  Wherever you want to go,” said Brown.

Bass Pro Pyramid has the largest free-standing elevator in the country, a 300 foot high observation deck of the city, two restaurants, a bowling alley, a gun range and aquarium.

Shoppers today called it the perfect fit for Memphis and a new era for the city.

“This is a destination place. This is cool, ” said Lyle Muller.

Due to the expected large crowds, Bass Pro will provide free shuttle service through Sunday to and from the store.
